You'll transport and support race officials, monitor the course for incidents, respond to capsizes or equipment failures, and ensure the safety of competitors on open water. >You may also assist with course buoy placement and retrieval.
Must hold a PCOC. Must be experienced and confident operating a powered vessel in open-water and potentially rough conditions. >Arrive at the designated time for the pre-race boat drivers briefing and Check in with the Volunteer Coordinator on arrival >Bring weather-appropriate clothing, wet weather gear, and shoes with non-slip soles.
A personal flotation device (PFD) must be worn at all times while on the water and will be provided if you don't have your own. >No mobile phone use while driving. You are the first line of response if a crew capsizes or a rower is in distress β stay alert at all times. >Maintain safe distances from racing boats unless directed otherwise by your assigned official. >Be aware of other water users including commercial traffic, recreational vessels, and other regatta boats. >Know the regatta's emergency action plan and communication channels (radio frequency/channel) before you launch. >Never position your boat between a breaking wave and a rowing shell. Kill your engine when approaching a rower in the water. >Report any mechanical issues with your vessel to the Safety Officer immediately β do not continue operating an unsafe boat.
