Operate the official timing system and record the finish times for all races throughout the regatta. >Your sole focus is capturing accurate times and finish order β the Backup Timer/Scribe will handle written recording and backup timing. >In coastal rowing, mass starts and buoy-turn courses mean boats often finish in close succession, so your full attention must be on the water. >You'll be stationed at the finish line and work under the direction of the Chief Judge at the Finish.
Arrive in time for the pre-race officials briefing and Check in with the Volunteer Coordinator on arrival >Must be focused and comfortable working under pressure β races can finish with multiple boats arriving within seconds of each other. >Experience with timing systems is preferred but training will be provided on the day. >Bring water, sunscreen, hat, and snacks β you'll be at your station for extended periods with limited opportunity to step away. >Wear weather-appropriate clothing and be prepared for sun, wind, and spray. >No mobile phone use during racing.
The finish area is one of the busiest zones at the regatta β be aware of boats beaching at speed, rowers sprinting to the finish line (in beach sprint events), and spectators crowding the finish zone. >Stay within your designated timing position and do not move into the boat landing area. >Know the location of the nearest first aid station. >If you witness an incident at the finish line, alert the Safety Officer or nearest marshal immediately β do not leave your timing post unless relieved, as races may still be finishing.
