Provide first aid coverage for competitors, volunteers, and spectators throughout the regatta. >This includes staffing the first aid station, responding to incidents on the beach and around the venue, treating minor injuries, and escalating serious cases to emergency services. >You may also be called to assist with on-water incidents once a rower has been brought to shore.
Must hold a current first aid certification (minimum). Higher qualifications such as paramedic, nurse, or lifeguard certification are highly valued. >Arrive at the designated time before racing begins and check in with the Volunteer Coordinator >Wear clearly identifiable clothing (a high-visibility vest or designated first aid shirt will be provided). >Be familiar with the venue layout including beach access points, boat landing zones, and vehicle access for ambulances. >Must be comfortable making decisions under pressure in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
Know the regatta's emergency action plan, including the exact venue address and directions for emergency services, before racing starts. >Confirm the location and working condition of the defibrillator at the beginning of your shift. >Keep your first aid kit stocked and accessible at all times β do not leave the station unattended without arranging cover. >Be aware of coastal-specific risks including hypothermia from cold water immersion, cuts from shells and equipment, heat exhaustion, and impact injuries from beach starts and finishes. >Do not enter the water to assist a rower β wait for safety boat crews to bring casualties to shore. Document all treatments provided and report every incident to the L.O.C.
