Help lay and position the on-water race course before racing begins. >This includes deploying turning buoys and anchors, setting start and finish line markers, placing course boundary markers, and confirming buoy positions with the Race Committee and Jury. >You'll work from a boat under the direction of the Course Coordinator.
Arrive at the scheduled time (and earlier is better!) Check in with the Volunteer Coordinator on arrival >Must be comfortable working from a boat in open-water conditions. >Wear non-slip footwear, weather-appropriate clothing, and be prepared to get wet. Bring sunscreen and hat. >A personal flotation device (PFD) must be worn at all times while on the water and will be provided if you don't have your own. >Must be able to handle heavy anchors, chains, and buoys. No boating licence required unless you are also driving the vessel.
Keep hands and fingers clear of anchor lines and chains during deployment β entanglement risk is serious. >Be cautious when lifting and lowering heavy anchors and buoys over the side of the boat. >Maintain three points of contact when moving around the vessel. >Watch for changing water conditions β currents, swell, and wind can shift quickly in a coastal environment. >Communicate clearly with your boat driver before any deployment. >If conditions deteriorate, notify the Course Coordinator immediately β do not take unnecessary risks to place equipment.
