Pitch in wherever help is needed throughout the regatta day. >As a float volunteer you'll be called on to fill gaps as they come up β this could include helping with registration, directing spectators, running messages between officials, restocking supplies, assisting with boat handling on the beach, helping crews carry boats, or any other task that pops up on the day. >If you're also racing, you'll be called on between your events when you're available. >You'll check in with the Volunteer Coordinator who will direct you where you're needed most.
Check in with the Volunteer Coordinator on arrival and let them know your availability β if you're racing, provide your event schedule so tasks can be assigned around your races. >Be ready to move between different areas of the venue at short notice. >Wear closed-toe shoes with good grip, sun protection, and clothing you're comfortable working and potentially racing in. >No specific experience needed β just a positive attitude and willingness to jump in wherever you're pointed. >Stay accessible and check back with the Volunteer Coordinator between tasks.
Because you'll be moving between roles, take a moment at each new task to understand any specific hazards for that area β ask the person in charge before diving in. >Stay clear of boat landing zones, trailer movements, and the course launch area unless specifically directed there. >Don't take on any on-water roles unless you've been briefed and have a PFD. >Know the location of the first aid station and the Safety Officer. >If you're also racing, be honest about your energy levels β volunteer tasks should not compromise your safety on the water.
